Labrys neptuniae CSW11 is a bacterial strain capable of degrading different concentrations of ibuprofen isolated from sewage sludge. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug widely consumed in the world. Due to its incomplete elimination in wastewater treatment plants, both ibuprofen and several of its metabolites have been detected in effluents, sediments and bodies of water. Bioaugmentation with this ibuprofen-degrading bacterial strain could remove this drug from wastewater and reduce the amount of this contaminant released into the environment.
