This anonymized
data set comes from data collected in a field-experimental design with pretest
and follow-up measurements among a sample of 72 employees working in ten teams
in an international engineering, design, and advisory company in Northern
Europe (i.e., the experimental group). In addition, 133 employees working in 30
teams from the same company participated at follow-up and served as the control
group. All participants worked as consultants within the fields of
infrastructure, industry, and energy. Team members in the experimental
condition were invited to complete a web-based survey at Time 1, which was at
the end of September (about 1 week before the intervention), and at Time 2,
which was in January (a couple of weeks after the intervention was completed).
In addition, participants in the control condition were invited to complete the
same web-based survey at Time 2 in January. Participation was voluntary, and
respondents were assured of the confidentiality of their responses.
The participants filled out a questionnaire
measuring perceived autonomy support, 12 items (6 measuring support from their manager and 6 measuring
support from their coworkers), motivation
at work, 19 items (6 items measuring extrinsic motivation, 4 introjected
regulation, 3 identified regulation, 3 intrinsic motivation, 3 amotivation), basic
psychological need satisfaction and need frustration in the work domain, 24 items of which twelve assess
basic psychological need satisfaction of autonomy (4 items), relatedness
(4 items), competence (4 items), and twelve assess need frustration of the
need for autonomy (4 items), competence (4 items), relatedness (4
items), work engagement, which has
nine items, and finally job burnout,
11 items, and demographics.
