High-resolution inventories for Reactive Nitrogen Emissions from China’s livestock during 2005-2022

This dataset contains a comprehensive collection of data related to livestock populations and Nr emissions from livestock in China from 2005 to 2022. The dataset is structured to facilitate the calculation of Nr emissions from 23 livestock categories and 3 raising systems, with a spatial resolution of 0.1° latitude by 0.1° longitude. To reflect different baseline in livestock distribution, three versions are provided for each dataset, based on GLW data from 2010, 2015, and 2020. For each emission file, the base-year versions are available (base2010, base2015, base2020). It includes the following components: 1. Livestock_distribution_China_2005-2022_base{2010,2015,2020}.nc: This NetCDF file contains the Average Annual Population (AAP) of 23 livestock categories and 3 raising systems in China from 2005 to 2022 based livestock distribution from GLW in 2010, 2015, and 2020 with data provided at 0.1° lat. × 0.1° lon. 2. NH3_emission_livestock_China_2005-2022_base{2010,2015,2020}.nc: This NetCDF file provides the monthly ammonia (NH₃) emissions from 23 livestock categories and 3 raising systems in China from 2005 to 2022 at 0.1° lat. × 0.1° lon. 3. NOx_emission_livestock_China_2005-2022_base{2010,2015,2020}.nc: This NetCDF file reports the monthly nitrogen oxide (NOₓ) emissions from 23 livestock categories and 3 raising systems during 2005-2022 at 0.1° lat. × 0.1° lon. 4. N2O_emission_livestock_China_2005-2022_base{2010,2015,2020}.nc: This NetCDF file provides the monthly nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions from 23 livestock categories and 3 raising systems during 2005-2022 at 0.1° lat. × 0.1° lon. 5. get_livestock_distribution.pro: This IDL (Interactive Data Language) code is designed for calculating the Average Annual Population (AAP) of 23 livestock categories and 3 raising systems in China from 2005 to 2022. It processes the livestock distribution data to generate annual population estimates for each category. 6.code.zip This folder contains IDL code files and corresponding documentation for estimating reactive nitrogen (Nr) emissions from livestock in China from 2005 to 2022. The workflow begins by determining livestock distribution, followed by the calculation of monthly Nr emissions using emission factors for 23 livestock categories across 3 raising systems. The results are saved in NetCDF (.nc) format, and associated uncertainties are also quantified. 7. livestock_excretion.csv: This CSV file contains parameters used to calculate the nitrogen (N) and Total Ammoniacal Nitrogen (TAN) in the excretion for each livestock category. 8. livestock_ef.csv: This CSV file contains parameters used to calculate the emissions of ammonia (NH₃), nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), and nitrous oxide (N₂O) from the 23 livestock categories and 3 raising systems.
