Placental transcriptome analysis in opioid-exposed versus non-opioid exposed pregnancies

Exposure to opioids, both prescribed and non-prescribed, in utero is linked to an increased risk of preterm delivery, fetal growth restriction, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, and alterations in neurodevelopment. This study aimed to examine and compare the placental transcriptome profiles between opioid-exposed and non-opioid-exposed pregnancies, with the goal of elucidating the molecular alterations associated with opioid exposure and understanding their potential implications for fetal development and pregnancy outcomes.
