VPRS 12937 Visiting Justices' Register

Section 120 of the Social Welfare Act 1970 (No.8089) allows for the appointment of Visiting Justices through the Governor-in-Council. A Visiting Justice was to, in rotation with other Visiting Justices, visit a prison not more than once a week and make reports to the Governor-in-Council as required.This series also contains entries pertaining to prisoner's applications and complaints to the Visiting Justice.Entries in the volumes include the date of the hearing, details of the charge / complaint, name of the visiting justice, decision and the signature of the particular Visiting Justice.
