X-ray spectroscopy of NGC 5548

We propose to observe the bright Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 5548. This wellstudiedobject has an Xray spectrum consisting of a powerlaw, soft excess,warm absorber and reprocessed Xray spectrum. Using the RGS data we willstudy the absorption and emission spectrum from the warm absorber, inparticular we want to detect the O VIII Lyman alpha line. These data willbe supplemented by the EPIC data that allows an accurate determination ofthe broadband continuum radiation as well as the ironK emission andabsorption complexes. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
