Green-Wood Cemetery Burial & Vital Records, 1840-1937

The Green-Wood Burial and Vital Records: 1840-1937 are transcriptions from a handwritten record series from the institutional archives of The Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn New York. Known as the Burial Registry, the series consists of 60 ledger books in which cemetery administrators recorded burial and associated demographic data for individuals interred at Green-Wood from September 5, 1840 through December 31,1937. The records were recorded daily, in chronological order by date of interment. Each interment contains an entry for name of the deceased; burial date; age at death in years, months, and days; place of birth; marital status; street and house number of residence; cause of death; name of the undertaker; lot number; occasional ancillary notations; and small sketches or diagrams of the lot itself. Each entry was transcribed between 2020 and 2022 and normalized into a searchable dataset.
