For this experiment, two strains of T. minima from the same strain were needed, which were identified by the molecular identification mentioned above. One strain producing high levels of BMAA, while the other diatom strain with reduced BMAA production. Transcriptome sequencing was used to analyse and investigate the genes and regulatory pathways involved in the biosynthesis of BMAA in two T. minima.
