We found a novel high-molecular-weight, alkaline, and thermostable xylanase from a subseafloor Microcella alkaliphila JAM-AC0309, although the type strain of Microcella alkaliphila is reported not to produce xylanase. We describe a xylanase gene from the subseafloor strain JAM-AC0309, and further we show it has possibility as a good producer of xylo-oligosaccharaides.
