VPRS 15728 Register of Survey Field Notes

This series was used by the Original Plan Room of the Surveyor-General's Branch to allocate annual single numbers to identify documentation including survey plans (also known as survey field notes) it received. The plans were subsequently incorporated into VPRS 16306 Parish and Township Original Plans (1837-1942) and Record Plans (by 1869-2001) were they referred to as ‘original plans’ to distinguish them from the record plans (showing entire parishes or townships) also placed in that series. Most of the plans placed in VPRS 16306 were allocated new plan numbers from an alpha-numeric sequence (refer to the series description for VPRS 16306) but the annual single survey field notes number remains visible on the plan. This annual single number is also the control symbol that identifies any other documents that may have accompanied the survey plan. As of 2024 these documents are held by Land Use Victoria. A third volume spanning 1939-1942 is likely to have been created but is yet to be located or identified. The annual number sequence ceased during 1942, replaced by a sequence of sequential numbers. This series was previously titled List of Plans but this was amended to the present title in 2024 when the function of the series was determined.
