In a few cases, I have shown used SE = 8 to show small SEs that extend slightly beyond the bars— because showing slightly inflated SEs is better than suggesting no variation at all, in my opinion. Note that this file shows STANDARD ERRORS, not standard deviations. I considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent. Sample sizes are in Fig 14.15 on top of bars I cannot find the RAW DATA for BTPDs, GPDs, and UPDs, but I checked the numbers in this file TWO TIMES with the computer output. I have these raw data somewhere. For both males and females, BTPD data are from >=2 year old adults only-- because BTPDs usually did NOT copulate as yearlings. For males and females of GPDs, UPDs, and WTPDs, body masses are from both 1-year olds (yearlings) and >=2 year olds, because yearling females of these species almost always copulate, and yearling males of these species often DO copulate These data used for Figure 14.15, Bottom, in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 12 March 2025. First juvenile emergences usually occurred in late May or early June for all four species. BGUW indicates black-tailed, Gunnison's, Utah, and white-tailed prairie dogs GPD body masses are from all three study-colonies: Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO), Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC) at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP), and Visitor Center Colony (VCC) at VCNP Body masses for BTPDs are from single Rankin Ridge Colony at Wind Cave National Park Body masses for UPDs are from single Horse Corral Colony at Bryce Canyon National Park Body masses from WTPDs are from single study colony at Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge Some data on BGUW sexual dimorphism are in the following publication: Hoogland, J. L. 2003. Sexual dimorphism in five species of prairie dogs. Journal of Mammalogy 84:1254-1266. File name: Fig 14.15, Bottom, BGUW, Sexual dimorphism at first juvenile emergences, 09 May 2026
