资源简介:
In March 2016 Wardell Armstrong Archaeology (WAA) undertook a geophysical survey of land at Brockhill East, Redditch, Worcestershire. The survey was undertaken for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, to provide information in relation to a planning application for a solar development at the site. Previous archaeological work in the 'Phase 1' development area to the southwest of the site identified an Iron Age enclosure of Middle to Late Iron Age date, with a single internal pit, the whole site being very truncated. A rare Iron Age cremation was recovered from the enclosure ditch (Worcestershire Archaeology 2012). The objective of the geophysical survey was therefore to determine the presence/absence, nature and extent of potential archaeological features within the study area, and the presence/absence of any known modern features within the survey area, which may affect the results. Geomagnetic survey was undertaken over the majority of the study area on a field by field basis, which comprised arable land at the time of the survey. A number of the geophysical anomalies were detected at the site, which are believed to be agricultural in origin, including evidence for plough furrows and former field boundaries. A number of former gravel pits were also present on site. A number of other possible soil-filled features were detected, although no definite archaeological remains were identified.
