De novo assembly of a Drosophila mauritiana reference genome. Drosophila mauritiana strain:MS17

The D. mauritiana strain MS17 (Ehime Drosophila Species Stock Center Japan, http://kyotofly.kit.ac.jp/cgi-bin/ehime/index.cgi, stock number E-18912) was sequenced to 50-fold coverage using 76 bp Illumina single-end and paired-end reads. The genomic sequence was built using a combination of de novo assembly with CLC Assembly Cell v. 3.1.0 beta2 and subsequent reference-guided anchoring of contigs on the D. melanogaster chromosomes using nucmer (MUMmer package v.3.22). The D. mauritiana genome was annotated based on alignment of D. melanogaster proteins to the D. mauritiana genome sequence with exonerate-2.2.0 followed by curation using custom perl scripts.
