Comparison of different diagnostic approaches to bacterial vaginosis

This study compares the Nugent score plus culture, two multiplex PCR assays (SG1 and SG2), and NGS for diagnosing vaginosis and bacterial dysbiosis. Forty-four vaginal swabs from patients with vaginal discomfort were tested. Nugent scores ranged from 0 to 9, and samples were tested with SG1, SG2, and NGS (whole 16S rRNA gene, Oxford Nanopore sequencing). NGS with Community State Types (CST) classification was the gold standard for performance calculations.
