A structured dataset of food recall records published by the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET), Greece, 2010–2025

This dataset contains 1,016 food recall records published by the Hellenic Food Authority (Eniaios Foreas Elenchou Trofimon, EFET) between 3 November 2010 and 31 December 2025. EFET issues public recall press releases only as unstructured Greek-language text or PDF, with no machine-readable export; this dataset compiles them into a single structured, openly accessible form for the first time. Each record corresponds to one recalled product (announcements covering several products were split into separate records) and provides up to 26 fields, including the product name and type, producer and distributor, the full free-text recall reason, the specific hazard and hazard category, the announcement date, country and Greek prefecture of production, the responsible control region, package weight/volume, packaging material, batch number, and control department. Free-text and place-name fields are retained verbatim in the original Greek (fields suffixed _el); controlled-vocabulary fields are additionally provided in English. Hazard categories are given in three complementary forms: the original Greek category, a collapsed English category (with compound entries split into primary and secondary), and a category aligned to the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) classification for cross-system comparison. Fields not reported in an announcement are left empty; no values were imputed. The data are provided in three equivalent formats (CSV [UTF-8], XLSX, and JSON), accompanied by a bilingual (Greek/English) data dictionary and a README. The dataset supports descriptive surveillance of hazard categories, product types, temporal patterns, and the geography of food recalls in the Greek market, and comparison with other national and supranational recall systems.
