Study Purpose: This study investigated the influence of access to and utilization of electronic
resources on the academic performance of postgraduate students in universities in Benue State,
Nigeria. In order to determine the influence of access and utilization of electronic resources on
academic performance, the objectives of the study were to determine the influence of access and
utilization of electronic resources on the academic performance of postgraduate students in
universities in Benue State, Nigeria.
Methodology: Three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted
a survey research design; A questionnaire was used as the primary instrument for data
collection on influence of access and utilization of electronic resources on academic
performance of postgraduates in the study. The population of 341 registered postgraduate’s
library users and the sample size of 184 registered postgraduate students were used for the
study. The data for the study were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Frequency counts, mean, and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions,
while Chi-Square is used to test the hypotheses.
Findings: The findings of the hypothesis revealed that the utilization of electronic resources has
no significant influence on the academic performance of postgraduate students in universities in
Benue State. Further findings of the study revealed that electronic resources are available for
use by postgraduate students in universities in Benue State, and the utilization of electronic
resources influences the academic performance of postgraduate’s students in Benue State.
Implications: The study recommended an increase in ICT facilities, supply of standby generating
plants, subscription to electronic databases, retraining of librarians to be ICT compliance, and
cooperation of ICT study skills at postgraduate level in the study area to promote an increase in
access to and utilization of electronic resources by postgraduate students.
