The Public Locations layer is a detailed point-based dataset designed to inventory and geographically reference a diverse set of public and community-serving locations throughout Greene County, Ohio. The dataset contains over 190 categorized location types, including but not limited to: Recreational and Cultural: parks, playgrounds, sports fields, theatres, museums, amusement arcades Retail and Food Services: supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, bakeries, convenience stores Health and Wellness: hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, veterinary services, fitness centers, dentists Public Services and Infrastructure: fire stations, police departments, schools, libraries, post offices, government buildings Specialty and Niche Points: historical landmarks, charging stations, canoe launches, apiaries, helipads, archaeological sites This dataset integrates location data from authoritative local sources such as the Greene County GIS Department, as well as crowd-sourced and global geospatial platforms including OpenStreetMap. It is ideal for public service planning, emergency response coordination, community development, tourism mapping, and general reference. Attributes typically include the feature type, name (if applicable), and categorical groupings to support filtering and thematic mapping. The dataset is routinely reviewed and updated as new locations are identified or changes occur in the built environment.
