Trematodes are one of the most remarkable animals with complex heterogonic life cycles. Life cycles of a parasitic flatworms include several stages with disparate morphological and physiological characteristics - miracidia, redia, cercaria and adult worm follow each other and infect hosts ranging from mollusks to higher vertebrates. The aim of our research was to identify genes with stage-associated expression which most probably contribute to disparate anatomical and physiological characteristics of the life stages. Another goal was to determine similarities and differences in gene expression patterns within one life cycle and between two related species of trematodes.
