MOB describes the process of dyeing loincloths, from the collection of the products to the calendering. He first discusses the notion of ‘doorè’, which refers to all the products to be dyed that a customer entrusts to the dyer. With a piece of cloth and a terracotta jar, he shows how the loincloth was folded, held in the hands and repeatedly immersed in the dye until the desired colour was obtained. After drying, the last operation consists of calendering the loincloth on a piece of wood using a wooden mallet. He then discusses the different shades that can be obtained depending on the number of times the loincloth is immersed and the quality of the dye, then how weavers can combine different colours on the same loincloth using dyed and undyed yarn (see also 2019LG08-O05-0402 and 2019LG08-O05-0403). When asked about the resist technique, he says he has never seen it used.
