Metagenome and genome sequences from home-brewed mead starter culture (melomel)

Melomel is the term that refers to mead (fermented honey) fermented with fruit. DNA from the entire home-brewing starter culture for the preparation of melomel was sequenced (the metagenome), as well as from bacteria isolated from that starter culture (genome data). The goal of the project was to provide a snapshot of the microbial composition of a home-brewing starter culture to better understand the potential for discovery of novel microbes of potential use in biotechnology, and also for predicting potential risk of exposure to pathogens.
