Towards blood-free Anopheles rearing and control.

Experiment to confirm that an artificial blood-free diet allows the production of multiple generations of mosquito without loss of fitness relative to colonies maintained on fresh-blood meals. Whole genome analysis was carried out to monitor an A. gambiae population (Anopheles coluzzii (former Anopheles gambiae M form, Yaoundé strain) fed on the artificial blood diet compared to the founder colony (fed on vertebrate blood).
