The hyporheic zone plays a crucial role in river ecosystems by providing essential habitat and contributing to biogeochemical cycling. The purpose of this study was to characterize the microbial diversity from rivers throughout Texas (USA), including from water extracted from the hyporheic zone using Bou Rouch samplers. Sampling took place in the summers of 2021, 2022, and 2023. Total nucleic acids were extracted from Sterivex filters and the V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified by PCR (with primers 515F/806R) and sequenced on a MiSeq Illumina platform.
