Dataset on sociodemographic profile in residents of rural communities of the metropolitan region of Santarém, Pará, Brazil

Human exposure to environmental contaminants has become a widely debated topic in academic and social circles, as it poses a serious challenge to public health, especially in regions with intense agricultural activity. In these areas, understanding the sociodemographic profile of the exposed population is essential for interpreting vulnerability and risk factors associated with environmental contamination.
Given this, the objective of this study was to characterize the sociodemographic profile of residents living near soybean and corn plantations in the metropolitan region of Santarém, Pará. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in seven rural communities distributed among the municipalities of Belterra, Mojuí dos Campos, and Santarém, with the participation of 165 residents, who were given questionnaires designed to collect sociodemographic information.
The results showed a predominantly female profile (77.0%), composed mainly of adults between 30 and 59 years of age (57.6%), married (37.0%), with incomplete elementary education (30.3%), family income of up to one minimum wage (69.7%), and residents of the region for more than ten years (77.0%). These findings provide important insights into understanding the social context of populations potentially exposed to environmental contaminants, contributing to future analyses of risk factors and health inequalities.
