Straw Experiment Dataset

This dataset is associated with a paper entitled, "The effectiveness and efficiency of using normative messages to reduce waste: A real world experiment" by Gabby Salazar, João Neves, Vasco Alves, Bruno Silva, Jean-Christophe Giger and Diogo Veríssimo. This dataset was collected at Zoomarine Algarve in Portugal between 7/1/2018 and 9/10/2018 (Study 1) and 6/24/2019 and 9/20/2019 (Study 2) under the supervision of João Neves. We conducted a randomized field-experiment at a marine park in Portugal to test whether different normative messages reduced visitors’ paper straw use when compared to non-normative messages. We conducted a pilot study to test six different normative messages against a control message (Study 1) and then a full study to test two normative messages against a control message (Study 2).
