Genome assemblies and family crosses to understand sex chromosomes in a lab population of Astatotilapia burtoni

In this study we conducted a series of crosses of sires and dams from within a lab population of Astatotilapia burtoni in order to understand the sex determining system in these fish. We raised and sequenced with Illumina short reads 18 families from these crosses, pooling males and females from each family together. We conducted PacBio HiFi sequencing on 3 parents to generate genome assemblies, and sequenced the other 23 parents with Illumina short read so that we had sequencing data for the parents of all of the crosses. With this data, we hope to further our understanding of sex determination in A. burtoni as well as develop markers for sexing by genotype.
