We investigated the abundance, a- and Ã- diversity, and community composition of archaea, bacteria, and fungi in paddy soils from 11 rice cultivation areas of China. Soil DNA was extracted using the Fast DNA SPIN Kit for soil (Q BIOgene Inc., Carlsbad, CA, USA) following the manufacturerâs instructions. For pyrosequencing, the SSU rRNA genes of archaea, bacteria, and fungi were amplified using primer sets A364aF/A934bR (Kemnitz et al., 2007), 27F/519R (Lane, 1991), and EF4/Fung5 (Smit et al. 1999), respectively.
