The genome of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides strain KH3J was sequenced as part of the EVOLMYCO initiative funded by The French National Research Agency (ANR). This project aims to study the evolution of ruminant mycoplasmas with a special focus on horizontal gene transfer. Strain KH3J from Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides was isolated before 1948 in Sudan. This strain is used as vaccine.
