THE ROLE OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND UPBRINGING IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Environmental protection is one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity today. The limitation of natural resources, rapid industrial development, urban expansion, and population growth have led to a significant disruption of ecological balance. In this context, environmental education and upbringing acquire priority importance in modern society. Through environmental education, individuals develop a sense of responsibility toward nature, ecological awareness, and environmental culture. This article examines the goals and objectives of environmental education as well as its role within the overall education system. Particular attention is paid to the effectiveness of improving curricula, organizing practical training, conducting research activities, and applying interactive methods and innovative technologies in the formation of students’ environmental knowledge. The role of teachers in shaping ecological culture, developing students’ understanding of environmental problems, fostering their motivation to address these issues, and encouraging a careful attitude toward natural resources is also emphasized. The conclusion highlights that strengthening the system of environmental education and upbringing contributes to the implementation of sustainable development principles, ensures environmental security, and promotes harmony between humans and nature.
