Imaging of magnetic domains in Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets using the Mössbauer nanoscope in an high-throughput approach

With this proposal, we aim to establish an isotope-specific two-dimensional nanospectroscopy technique to correlate magnetic domains with structural phases, microstructure and grain boundaries in an Nd-Fe-B-based permanent magnet. Therefore, we combine the synchrotron Mössbauer source and the newly established nanoscope at the ESRF beamline ID14. This enables us to gain insights into the magnetic structure with structural phase contrast and to investigate the crucial influence of the microstructure and intergranular grain boundary phases on magnetic properties like coercivity at a previously unattained level.
