XMM observation of W UMa type binaries

GT The W UMa systems are eclipsing binaries with components of spectral typeFK which are in contact via a common convective envelope. They have orbitalperiods shorter than a day and are strong Xray emitters. Hence, W UMa binariesare of great interest in the study of the relation between stellar rotation rateand activity. The proposed observation will register RGS and EPIC spectra of 44Boo and VW Cep during one full orbital period.
