The main objective of the project is to perform a comprehensive analysis of the material and environmental potential of biochars, in the context of CO2 capture and water pollutants obtained in the thermochemical processing of waste from the food industry. Identification of potential applications and benefits resulting from the use of biochars (highly porous materials) will be carried out in accordance with the idea of a circular economy and a techno-economic analysis will be performed. The project includes the following issues, consistent with energy and waste management policy, that is: i) sustainable development (analysis of the potential of biochars responding to the need for efficient use of raw materials and reducing the negative impact on the environment); ii) obtaining raw materials (conversion of waste in thermochemical processes will allow the recovery of valuable materials); iii) emission reduction (capture of CO2 and other gases and harmful substances from water); iv) research and innovation (development of methods for analysis, obtaining highly porous materials from biochars and their characterisation using a wide range of instrumental methods - interdisciplinary research); v) ecological and economic aspects (analysis of the impact of thermochemical conversion processes of food waste on the environment; economic analysis related to the use of biochars as an alternative material in the context of the circular economy; promotion of innovative waste management solutions).
