Electricity production from natural gas Japan FY 2013-2022

In the fiscal year 2022, the electricity generated from natural gas in Japan amounted to approximately 340.2 terawatt hours. Figures peaked in fiscal 2014, reaching around 455 terawatt hours, but indicated a downward trend in more recent years. After the nuclear disaster in 2011, nuclear energy was replaced by fossil fuels. To be more independent of fossil fuel imports and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and electric power costs, Japan currently aims to replace fossil fuels with nuclear and renewable energy sources.
