Frieseomelitta varia is a stingless bee species characterized by the most extremegrade of reproductive division of labor. The queen holds all the supremacy ofreproduction, and there is no register of egg-laying workers in the colonies, even inqueenless conditions that, in general, favor worker oviposition. The complete queendominance makes F. varia a key species in the field of comparative genomics aimingat dealing with the puzzles of caste system evolution, division of reproductive labor,and eusociality.
