The objective of this proposal is to leverage anomalous (resonant) diffraction at the Co K-edge for a comprehensive understanding of the behavior of closely located Al atoms, specifically Al-(SiO2)3-Al sequences, in SSZ-13 zeolite (CHA topology). It has been recognized that these Co-species play a pivotal role in the exceptional catalytic performance of cobalt-exchanged zeolite-type catalysts in hydrocarbon SCR-NOx reactions in the presence of water. This research promises to contribute valuable insights into the fundamental aspects governing the catalytic behavior of Co in zeolites, with potential applications in SCR-NOx reactions, and enables the identification of Co siting as a probe for locating Al-(SiO2)2-Al sequences that stabilize such bi- and tri-valent cationic positions in zeolites.
