Perceptions of Infant Sleep in First-Time Parents

This thesis explores perceptions of infant sleep in first-time parents. Specifically, the study analysed parents’ qualitative accounts of their prepartum expectations and postpartum experiences of infant sleep. The translation of expectations to experiences was also investigated to understand how perceptions change from pre- to postpartum. Exploring parents’ perceptions at various time points allowed for a nuanced and comprehensive understanding of how infant sleep is perceived in first-time mothers and fathers over time.
