Bisphenol A Regulatory Testing and Review 1982-2007

It was previously believed that it was wrong to assume that endocrine chemical responses would increase or stay the same as the dose increased i.e. in a monotonic fashion. What was needed was a better approach to screen the bioactivity rather than toxicological changes induced by such chemicals, which by definition would require testing at much lower doses. This thought shift from toxicological to biological effect aligned directly with the precautionary principle and the need for early hazard warnings to anticipate harm.
