Chlorella saccharophila _ Transcriptome

A unique type of algae that produces more of a valuable red pigment called canthaxanthin, which has many industrial uses. They grew the algae in two stages: first, they fed it bicarbonate to increase its growth, and second, they limited its nitrogen supply to trigger pigment production. This method significantly boosted canthaxanthin levels. By analyzing the algae's genes and proteins, they found that this two-step process shifted their metabolism to favour canthaxanthin production. This research paves the way for sustainable and efficient production of this valuable pigment from algae, which could be used in various industries.
