Connecticut lobster (Homarus americanus) population studies

Investigations on the Long Island Sound (LIS) lobster population conducted from 1994- 1996, integrated with results of similar work conducted from 1983-1993, provided information on the biology and status of the LIS stock. The total landings of lobster from LIS by CT and NY resident fishers increased 639% from 1979-1996. The number of lobsters in the LIS population increased since the 1980's. This statement is supported by data indicating increases in landings, effort, and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of legal length lobsters and an increase in the abundance of sublegal lobsters.
