This study aimed to isolate and characterize novel chitinolytic bacteria from three different marine environments (sediments, marine sponges). Following a first enrichment culturing step from these habitats with insoluble chitin powder as the sole C and N source, isolates were isolated including an isolate belonging to the genus Motilimonas yet unknown for chitin degradation.
