This dataset contains responses to an adapted version of the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL), specifically modified for Japanese students studying English as a foreign language (EFL). The adaptation involved slight changes to the original phrasing of the SILL items to align more closely with the linguistic, cultural, and educational contexts of Japanese EFL students. The dataset is organised into three sheets: one for the combined sample, which aggregates responses from all participants, and two separate sheets for Sample A and Sample B, representing different subgroups of participants. The purpose of the dataset is to validate and analyse the psychometric properties of the adapted SILL in this unique educational context. The participants are Japanese university students enrolled in STEM programs. The SILL consists of 50 items categorised into six strategy groups: memory strategy (MM), cognitive strategy (CG), compensatory strategy (CM), metacognitive strategy (MC), affective strategy (AF), and social strategy (SC).
