Microbial community analysis of South Georgia marine sediment. Marine sediment metagenome

Microbial community composition (both bacteria and archaea) of marine sediment in the Coastal Sediments surrounding the Islands of South Georgia were sequenced. The sequencing was done to identify what microorganisms inhabit the surface and deep sediments in multiple sites around the area. The samples were collected during the RV Meteor M134 expedition to the Island in January-February 2017. Some of the sequences uploaded under this bioproject were from incubation experiments using live sediments from this expedition that were stored under anoxic conditions at close to in situ temperature. The uploaded sequences are part of the dataset supporting a number of publications from this expedition.
