Effects of sodium hyaluronate eye drops on ocular surface bacterial microbiota

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the composition and diversity of bacterial communities on the ocular surface before and after the intervention with sodium hyaluronate eye drops (with or without preservatives) using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing.Methods: Sixteen healthy adults were randomly divided into two groups. Samples were collected from the conjunctival sac of each participant. The differences in taxonomy and diversity among different groups before and after the intervention with sodium hyaluronate eye drops (with or without preservatives) were compared through the sequencing of the V3 to V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene in the samples.
