资源简介:
BACKGROUND Weaver's practice is informed by the display, collecting and museological processes of the contemporary art institution and how it intersects with fantasy, fashion and imagination, while also playing with tropes of 1970's anti-form sculpture. Where her predecessors broke down the idea of the plinth or pedestal, Weaver brings it back into sculpture's ambit. CONTRIBUTION 'No small wonder' is a sculture that spills across a carpeted ground exploring the relationship between floor and artwork, essentially making the plinth a feature of the work itself. It investigates how contemporary sculptural practice can create knew knowledge and extend found elements and technical processes relating specifically to Korean symbolism, history and folk art objects. This exhibition also places Weaver's work in direct relationship to significant Korean artists, such as Nam June Paik. SIGNIFICANCE 'No small wonder' was featured as part of the National Museum of Contemporary Art's Tell Me Tell Me: Australian and Korean Art 1976 - 2011 exhibition. This exhibition, a collaboration between the MCA Sydney and the Korean National Museum of Contemporary Art, was a significant government initiative that highlighted 50 years of friendship between Australia and the Republic of Korea. 'No small wonder' featured in Barkley's extensive cataloge 'Tell me, Tell me - An Australian Perspective, Tell me Tell me, Australian and Korean Art 1976-2011". The exhibition was also favourably reviewed in numerous Art Journals, newspapers and magazines, such as 'Art Asia Pacific' and 'Joong Ang Daily', as well as on Sydney's 'fbi' radio station - which referred to 'No small wonder' as having a "a warmth of colour and homely feel...[that gives it] a fun, almost childlike innocence" and suggested the exhibition itself was " easily one of the best ... of the year so far".
