The clinical characteristics and prognosis of Staphylococcus argenteus bacteraemia as analysed by massively parallel sequencing in Japan

Staphylococcus argenteus is a gram-positive bacterium newly distinguished from Staphylococcus aureus. Studies describing S. argenteus are limited because it cannot be distinguished from S. aureus based on routine diagnostic microbiology methods. Although the pathogenicity of S. argenteus was initially considered lower than that of S. aureus, recent studies have reported high mortality rates of S. argenteus bacteraemia. Therefore, we investigated the clinical characteristics and prognosis of S. argenteus bacteraemia along with microbiological analysis.
