In July-August 1977 BMR undertook further dredging for deepsea manganese nodules off Western Australia in the Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Diamantina. The objective of the 1977 cruise in Diamantina was to collect more material for analysis, particularly from the eastern part of the field where there is reason to believe that higher nickel and copper values are found than to the west.
