资源简介:
The EPA's "Dose Compliance Concentrations for Radionuclides at Superfund Sites" (DCC) provides default values for demonstrating compliance with dose-based Applicable or Relevant and Appropriate Requirements (ARARs). These recommended DCCs represent dose-based concentrations for contaminated soil, water, air, and foods, and are derived using standardized equations that combine exposure assumptions with EPA dose conversion factors. The dose limit used for these concentrations is based on the ARAR dose standard, ensuring they are protective of human health, including sensitive populations, over a lifetime. DCCs are available for various exposure pathways, including residential soil, composite worker soil, outdoor worker soil, indoor worker soil, construction worker soil, recreator soil, farmer soil, air, tap water, farmer water, recreator water, farm products, and fish ingestion. These values are based on default exposure parameters and reflect the reasonably maximum exposed (RME) individual. The Dose Assessment Guidance, developed by the EPA, provides a methodology for calculating dose-based, site-specific DCCs for radionuclides to ensure compliance with protective cleanup standards. While the recommended DCCs are useful as standardized tools for evaluating and cleaning up radioactively contaminated sites, they are generic values calculated without site-specific information. As such, they may not always be applicable to every site and do not address non-human health endpoints, such as ecological impacts. Site-specific information should be incorporated when necessary to refine these values for particular conditions. By providing consistent and protective dose-based concentrations, the DCC tool supports the cleanup of Superfund and RCRA sites while ensuring compliance with ARAR dose standards. It enables the evaluation of contaminated soil, water, air, and food pathways in a manner that aligns with EPA’s overarching goals for human health protection.
