E-book market size in Japan FY 2019-2028

The user expenditure on e-books in Japan amounted to 644.9 billion Japanese yen in fiscal year 2023, which was an increase of seven percent compared to the previous year. The market, which includes comics, magazines, and other textual materials, showed a particularly strong year-on-year growth rate of 28.6 percent in fiscal year 2020, which was a result of increased consumption due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the success of hit titles during that year. The e-book market was expected to grow further and reach a size of almost 805 billion yen by fiscal year 2028.
