DCR Roads and Trails

This datalayer contains all roads and trails (lines and point features) identified by DCR staff and consultants on DCR DSPR properties (as well as some of the Urban Parks; eventually all trails on these properties will be integrated into this dataset). As of late 2025 this layer contains the same data hosted by MassGIS (link below), which was last updated in 2015. It will be updated soon (late 2025-early 2026). Information about these trails include type, surface, width, and condition. Roads and trails on private and non-DCR public land are mapped if they connected to these roads and trails; these should be used with permission and should not be used if posted. This Feature layer consumes its data from a MassEOEEA-owned Feature layer (hosted), which is a copy of the MassGIS datalayer. It was created for use in DCR's Stewardship Maps (see links on DCR Office of GIS Services hub page). This layer doesn't have a filter, but some road/trail TYPEs are not symbolized and are therefore invisible when using this layer's built-in symbolization/style [about a quarter of the features are not symbolized, where TYPE is Administrative Road, Public Road, or Other. These features are in the layer but are not drawn unless you edit the style in a Web Map].
