VPRS 18795 Surveyor's Field Books

This series comprises maritime survey field books. These books were used by surveyors employed by the Ports and Harbours Branch of the Public Works Department while working in the field to keep notes and diaries of survey work. Information contained in the field books could include drawings, plots and/or annotations showing angles and distances from guide points, sounding depths and (in some cases) the outline and details of the marine and foreshore environments. The field books reflect a key part in the process of marine surveying in Victoria. Familiarity with survey techniques is necessary to make full use of these records. Before being transferred to PROV, this collection was in the custody of the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum.
