VPRS 10891 Officer And Warder Defaulter, Offence and Recommendation Book

This book is divided into two sections. The first section records charges brought against officers. It records the date of the charge, the name of the officer, the nature of the charge, by whom the charge was brought and the decision. It includes also the names of those whom investigated the charge. It could have been the governor of the gaol, members of the Public Service Board, a Board of Inquiry or the Sheriff of Victoria. This section of the book covers the period 1875-1940.The second section of the book records offences or recommendations for particular officers. In relation to offences, it records the date of the offence, the nature of it, how it was dealt with and by whom. References are made to pages in another record. In relation to recommendations, the particulars are outlined together with the name of the person making the recommendation. References are made to other records such as Letter Books or the Visiting Justice's Book. Recommendations relate usually to promotions to positions for a period of time but also include other matters.
